In Memory of Paul Frerking
Paul was many things to many people, including his family, fellow officials, teammates and the students and athletes he molded throughout his life. A great referee, teacher, coach, teammate, mentor, role model, fan, friend, father, husband.....too many "greats" to mention.
The smile and sarcasm greeting members prior to and during meetings will be deeply missed.
Thoughts and prayers to Lura, Cody and Dakota, and our close-knit officiating family as we remember "Ferk".

About the SBO
Established in 1953 the Suburban Basketball Officials (SBO) is an organization whose purpose is to motivate its members through careful study of the rules, mechanics, and game management techniques necessary to be successful at the highest levels of high school basketball.

Today we wear Black Jackets with a white SBO patch. But the Spirit of the White Jackets lives on!
2026 - 2027 Rules & Social Meetings
The 2026 - 2027 rules meetings will begin in the fall. You can click on the 'SCHEDULE' tab at the top of this page to get specific information on times, dates, and locations for all events.
All members, associate members and invited guests are required to attend all rules meetings. Any member unable to attend a rules meeting is expected to contact the Secretary regarding their absence.
In-Season Socials
All basketball officials and friends of high school basketball are invited to attend all SBO social events.
This upcoming season's socials are:
Friday, Jan 15, 2027 at Shoeless Joe's in Addison, IL on Lake St
Friday, Feb 12, 2027 at TBD
The socials will be held after that evenings' Varsity high school games.
Guest Applications
Applications for the upcoming 2026-2027 basketball season may be submitted anytime from April 1, 2026- September 15, 2026. The application must include the name of a current SBO member who is sponsoring the applicant. To obtain an application please e-mail either the President or Secretary of the group:
